Quantum Leap Cast

11th June 1964: Sam leaps into twenty-one year-old track star Tommy York, the Big Man on Campus at Prescott Naval Academy in Lakeside, Michigan. But Tommy’s seemingly perfect life – his popularity, dating the Admiral’s daughter and imminent appointment as valedictorian – may hide a secret, as his close friendship with gay roommate Phillip Ashcroft, suggests. After voicing his concern at Sam’s camp behaviour, Al informs his friend that Phillip is destined to be killed in two days’ time, hanged by a gay-bashing gang known as ‘The Chain’. When Sam discovers the gang are Tommy’s college fellows, their leader, Lieutenant Commander Ronnie Chambers, accuses him of being gay and then beats him up. The next day, Ronnie lodges a formal complaint against Tommy with the Admiral, objecting to his “unnatural relationship” with Phillip. With Tommy now ‘outed’, Sam quickly becomes a pariah – then he is captured by The Chain, beaten, stripped and sentenced to death by hanging…
